I’m out for my morning jog, and it’s getting excruciatingly hot.  It’s August, and I got out later than usual so I didn’t expect great weather, but I was sweating buckets.  So the sun is blaring, I’m struggling to keep my eyes clear of sweat, and I’m not in the greatest of moods.  Sometimes, when you are in a hard workout, it’s best to use your anger and pain to fuel your workout.

When I was about 75% of the way completed with my workout, one of my little sister’s songs from Enchanted comes on my ipod (don’t ask me how it got there).  It was the song “How does she know that you love her”, the one where the princess starts singing in the middle of New York city, and then convinces the street performers to join in with their bongos and instruments.  Anyways, it is quite hilarious if you haven’t heard it.

The whole song I was smiling and it even made me laugh out loud because it was so out of the ordinary.  The point is that I’m pretty sure that this one pick-me-up-song extended my workout about 10 extra minutes.  It lifted my frustration and I was able to finish my workout, surprisingly, in a good mood.  Laughter really is the best medicine and possibly another unfound workout tool.

I’m pretty sure if I purchased all of the best diet supplements available to a person I could fill my whole house, floor to roof.   It is absolutely insane how many choices, drugs, brands, dosage amounts, etc that we can choose from.

I myself have tried a couple of supplements which all ended up with mostly the same result:  me feeling like my body was working extremely hard and a little hopped up on crack, and also a loss of some very needed sleep.  Like I said, I have only tried a couple which probably weren’t the best type, but I have not found a drug supplement that has worked for me. 

Because the drugs have failed to work, I have turned to more natural supplements like fiber, flaxseed, folic acid, acai berry, and calcium.  All of these nutrients I have found make me feel great, and help to regulate my digestive system.  They don’t give me the results that my weight loss drugs did, but I love the sleep I get!

Whenever there is a concern about contaminated food or recalls in popular or common products, I believe in informing everyone that I can.  This is my way of doing my part to prevent a further outbreak.

That is why I want to spend some time on the Nestle Toll House recall situation.  On June 19, 2009 the FDA recalled all Nestle Toll House cookie refrigerated cookie dough because of a contamination of E. coli.  As of July 10, 2009 we have a reported 76 people in 31 states that have been infected from the cookie dough.  Of those reported, 35 have been hospitalized and none have died.

Since the recall, Nestle Toll House has been marketing and selling products that reads “new batch” on the label, which are safe and are not part of the products that are contaminated.

If you do have any cookie dough that you have bought in the past 3 to 4 months from Nestle, please throw it away.  If you have eaten some of the cookie dough that does not say “new batch” on the label, please contact your doctor immediately.  Signs of contamination with E. coli are diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramping, and bloody stools.

A friend once told me that a true runner doesn’t look outside to see if he’s going to go out or not.  A true runner only looks outside to see what he will wear.  Now if you’re the die-hard 15 mile runner this might be true, and it might even be true if you just simply love to run and are able to bear the elements, but for me I’m a fair weather or hit the treadmill kind of girl.

When the weather isn’t working in your favor, you can do your exact same workout on the treadmill.  My husband calls my condition wuss-itis (rude, I know) but if I’m going to get a better workout in the comfort of my treadmill with a fabulous show or movie playing right in front of me, then why not?

Why do we have to brave the elements to be an avid runner?  It’s still running isn’t it!  Those so called “true runners” are prideful and are only saying such things so that they can make themselves seem like better runners.  If you want to be a better runner than me, then beat me in distance or by time.  Don’t try to tell me that running in the rain makes you a better runner.  To me, you only look dumb.

My number one rule when flying is to never touch your face under any circumstance.  If it is absolutely necessary, use hand sanitizer and be extremely brief.  The problem with airplanes is the recycling of the air.  If one person has a cough, cold, flu, or any type of illness, it will no doubt be picked up in the air and then circulated and circulated until the whole plane gets the illness.

I am probably sounding like the worst germ-a-phobe, but it is absolutely true.  There is no place for the air that we breathe out to go.  They pressurize the cabin, make sure there are adequate levels of oxygen sufficient for those in the plane, and everything else is recycled (probably the worst recycling there is).

If you don’t go to my extreme of never touching your face, at least bring hand sanitizer with you.  Every little bit helps, and I know that no one wants the flu right before they go on vacation.  That is the time that you want to be the healthiest, not having to worry about being ill.  Do your body a favor, and be a little more cautious next time you are on a plane.  The person next to you might be carrying more than just luggage.
