There are many essential vitamins out there, and of course our bodies need them all. But there are some that the body is more likely to be missing than others. In winter months, it can be worse as there is a lower variety of fresh fruits available, and it could very well be one of the greater seasons of need. Of course, we would all prefer if we were to get all of these vitamins in our diet. But most won’t, and anybody can benefit from a good multivitamin. But there are a few essentials to look for. Unfortunately, the human body is not capable of growing its own vitamins.

First of all, you should look for vitamin C. Obviously, your body can only absorb so much. But especially in winter seasons, while most are not deficient in vitamin C, it can help you to improve your immune system, while also working as a natural antioxidant. This can help you to keep the body strong, and it can be taken in pill form, powder form, or just eaten in foods.

Second, you need vitamin D. Vitamin D is actually absorbed through the skin from sunlight. So in winter, it may be harder to get. But it regulates mood and helps you to stay away from feeling gray. Obviously, wearing sunscreen is important to protect the skin from damage. But surprisingly, sunscreen does not actually block the absorption of vitamin D.

Other important nutrients to look for in every supplement include calcium, B vitamins, vitamin E, and zinc. Most people should actually avoid those vitamins with iron, because the body cannot eliminate it the way it needs to. If you have a monthly period or you are pregnant, it’s absolutely essential. But otherwise, the needed vitamins are rather basic, and this is one to avoid.
